The headline from the 2/6/2015 Abq Journal Business section is "Future of San Juan Power plant now in PRC's hands".  The article goes on to say - "Under PNM's plan, ratepayers would be asked in 2018 to begin paying the estimated $500 million tab for shutting two generators, installing pollution controls on the remaining two and acquiring replacement power".
Longer term, ratepayers will also foot the bill for maintaining the creaky old SJ plant, buying coal (including paying the extra $367 million "book keeping error" in PNM's original cost estimate), and dealing with any future environmental regulations.
Gee, wouldn't an investment in clean energy be a lot smarter?
